FLOWER BOYS

Chris and Phineas, tough guys that they are, feel totally comfortable posing among the flowers. This photo was taken in the Arnold Arboretum, a spectacular park where we have walked the dogs almost daily for years. Now Phineas has joined our pack and enjoys going for walks most of the time.

ALEX AND PHINEAS HEAD OUT FOR A JAUNT

We have been going for daily outings, usually with the dogs along. Phineas is proving himself to be an adaptable outdoor guy. He loves getting fresh air. And he has even dined al fresco a few times.

CHOW TIME
Chris got to feed Phin his first bottle of expressed breastmilk. We weren't sure how the little guy would take to it, but there was no need to worry. The champion eater's opinion: YUM.

THE GUYS HANG OUT

Phineas: Are you aimlessly surfing again?
Dad: No, I'm trying to figure out how to get a passport for an infant. How tall are you anyway?
Phineas: About 1'-10".
Dad: And what's your Social Security number?
Phineas: How the hell should I know ... ask mom.
Alex (from the next room): It's XXX-XX-XXXX. (Actual number concealed to protect Phineas' young identity from theft.)
Dad: Thanks baby.
Phineas: No problem.
Dad: I meant your mother. What color eyes do you have?
Phineas: Baby blue. Are you through .. I'm trying to nap.
Dad: All set baby.
Phineas: I don't think she heard you.
Dad: I meant you that time.
Phineas: ZZZZZZZZ

ERIN VISITS FROM CALIFORNIA

Last week when we were just settling in to our new routine, my friend Erin came to visit from California. As one who has raised three of her own, as well as being perhaps the most effective person I know, Erin helped us out so much. Here she is holding Phineas. Thanks to her we have an organized nursery, two changing stations, an a diaper bag ready for any outing. Miss E: Phinny says "hi"

PHINEAS' DOGGIE BROTHERS

JAKE

SAMMY

Phineas has two older canine "brothers" Jake and Sammy. This is appropriate as Phineas was born in the Year of the Dog. Jake and Sammy are quite curious about the new little guy. They like to lick him, a sign we are told that they consider him part of the pack.

PHINEAS AND HIS MOM

PHINEAS' VERY BIG DAY

This was a very big day for Phineas. First he crapped in his pants in his mom and dad's room. Then he had his diaper changed and went downstairs and cried for a while. Then he went to sleep on the first floor and later slept on the third floor, where he crapped his pants in his sleep. Then he went down to the second floor and had his diaper changed and crapped again immediately. Then he had his diaper changed again and was changed into a fresh onesie with a zipper and green and blue stripes - very fetching (see photo). Then he cried some more and went to see his mom for breakfast. (She was sleeping late because Phineas has been up all night partying and drinking with her.) Then he slept some more and probably crapped and pissed his pants at that point. Then he was up for a quick change, a little boob and another crap. Then he cried, was changed and slept some more. This brings us to about 10:00 am. The rest of the day was even busier, but I will not bother you with all the details.

BATHTIME

Phineas had his first bath a couple of days ago. He found the whole process rather frustrating, but really liked cuddling afterwards. Chris looked like he had been doing this his whole life.

Light therapy

Because Phineas had some jaundice after he was born he spent a day and a half under the "bili lights". This is a baby tanning booth that helps the body process the bilirubin so it can be excreted. As you can see, Phineas seems to enjoy sunbathing. After he completed his therapy we were discharged from the hospital happy to be together in our home.

Phineas Jacques McLean joined our family at 5am on friday april 7th. He weighed 6 lbs, 11 oz, and measured 18.5 inches. He is an adorable little fellow (particularly in the eyes of his overjoyed, but tired parents). His canine brothers Jake and Sammy are adjusting well to their new pack order.
