TO SLEEP PERCHANCE TO DREAM

Phineas has made some definite strides in his sleeping. Although he has a ways to go before he's sleeping through the night. At least it's not every 2 hours anymore, though. We are wondering: of what does he dream when that smile crosses his face?

A VISIT TO NYC TO SEE LES GRANDPARENTS

We went to NYC to visit Phineas' granparents on their 45th wedding anniversary. In addition to this auspicious occaision, Phineas had a great time hanging out in the big city. He charmed his grandparents with some awesome smiles. He also got a chance to compare Frederick Law Olmstead's work in Central Park to his work in Boston (with which Phin is very familiar). A great time was had by all.

OUT AND ABOUT IN THE STROLLER

A totally rainy weekend limited our outings with the Phinster. We did manage to get him out in his new stroller though. So far, he seems to prefer being carried by one of his parents. Given his rate of doubling his weight, however, carrying him is not likely to remain a long term option.

PHINEAS AND BROTHER BLUE

Today Phineas was given a gift of a story: A young boy had nothing at all but wanted a playhouse. The boy's parents scolded him when he asked them for one, so he went outside to build a playhouse for himself. The boy discovered a special place in the dirt for his house and then found a piece of wood - a slat from an orange crate - to use as the floor. The ceiling of his house would be the sky. He could do without walls; nothing held up the sky after all. The boy slept the night in his house and when he woke up his ceiling turned from deep blue to orange. He understood then that the whole world was his house with special places everywhere.

That little boy was Brother Blue and he told that extemporaneous story about a playhouse for Phineas because Phineas' dad is an architect. When Phineas' dad was a boy he used to listen to Brother Blue tell stories so it was a happy surprise for Alex, Chris and Phin to run into Brother Blue yesterday at the Roxbury Community College bookfair.

For more about Brother Blue, who, as we were told, is changing the world one heart at a time, see http://www.brotherblue.com .

PHINEAS LOVES HIS ACTIVITY GYM

Phineas absolutely loves to play with this. He swats and kicks at the hanging toys. His parents think he is a child prodigy.

AUNT HELEN AND PHIN HAVE A VISIT

Phineas is getting along well with his relatives. Here he is entertaining his aunt Helen. We expect that he will continue to be the life of the party for some time coming.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE A MONTH MAKES

Our loyal readers may remember the picture on the left from about one month ago. The picture on the right was taken today. Note Phineas' massively increased size as well as his awake appearance. We can't believe how fast he is changing.
SAMMY!

Sammy is just over a year old. In fact his and Phineas' birthdays are about a week apart. So Sammy, technically, is not a puppy anymore. However, flatcoats are known as the "Peter Pan dog" because they never grow up. No need to say that our house is filled with antics already. Here Sammy has just been swimming and has come over to say hi (and probably shake all over us).

PHINEAS' FRIENDS

Phineas and Alex have been going to a class for new moms and babies. These are all of Phinney's friends from the class. He already has several options for arranged marriages. We both really enjoyed the class and we hope to stay in touch with the group.

JAKE!

Well, Jake has had to adjust to the new guy, but he's doing pretty well on that. Luckily, he has Sammy on whom to take out any latent aggression. Sammy doesn't mind--he loves to get beat up. In fact, sometimes when the are wrestling, Sammy flips himself over into the submissive pose if he doesn't feel Jake is roughing him up enough.
